A family project
Eight small family-story conversations for Chanukah
Use photographs and familiar objects to invite stories across generations.
When to begin
Prepare 6–8 weeks before Chanukah; choose prompts before the gathering.
Use the date observed by your own family and community. Work backward from that date; the project can stay small.
Your project
- Choose eight photographs or objects and give each a stable ID.
- Ask an open question about one item each evening, when the family wants to participate.
- Record the speaker, date and permission alongside any recording.
- Keep alternative recollections together and invite review after the holiday.

Keep the result together
Store the original, the source and the sharing permission with the finished record. Ask one relative to review it before inviting a wider audience.
