How Pinkas Works

Pinkas is one private family archive with different ways to collect, connect, understand, and make things from the same record.

The family archive

A Pinkas family is its own private space. People, relationships, dates, stories, recipes, photos, recordings, documents, and projects belong to that family and are kept separate from every other family.

The useful unit is not just a file. Pinkas keeps the file with the people, place, date, source, and memory that let the next generation understand it.

Modules, not separate silos

Modules are focused workspaces over the same archive: Calendar, Family Tree, Interviews, Stories and Memories, Recipes, Gatherings, Studio, Mosaics, and Books. A person added in the tree can later appear in a story, date, interview, photograph, or book without being recreated.

A family's plan determines which modules and output allowances are active. Module access does not change who owns the underlying family record.

Permissions

Roles determine what a member may do. Viewers read shared material; Contributors submit for review; Editors create and change content; Family admins manage members and private records; the Account owner controls the archive and deletion.

Visibility adds another boundary. An item may be for the family, a private group, or only its creator and family administrators, depending on the feature.

Invitations and guests

A member invitation grants ongoing family access at a chosen role and expires if unused. A contributor route lets someone submit for family review. A guest link is narrower: it may allow one RSVP or one upload collection without revealing the archive.

Invite links and access codes are keys. Families can close or revoke them and should not forward them beyond the intended people.

Suggestions are not facts

Pinkas records the difference between confirmed, unverified, disputed, rejected, and AI-suggested information where those states apply. A transcript draft remains a draft; a possible duplicate remains a suggestion; a proposed relationship remains unconfirmed until a family member decides.

AI can assist with organization and transcription. It does not receive authority to decide what your family history is.
