Your first 10 minutes

Getting Started

You do not need a finished family tree or a box of scanned photographs. Begin with one family, one person, one item, and one date.

Start small. The best first archive is one your family can understand and add to today.

1. Create your family

Sign up with your email, follow the one-time link, and choose a family name. The first person who creates the space becomes its account owner and can invite or remove members later.

2. Invite a relative

Open Family settings and invite one relative by email. Choose their role deliberately: Viewer can read shared material, Contributor can submit for review, Editor can add and change family content, and Family admin can manage members and private entries.

3. Add the first person

Open Family Tree and add someone you know well. A name is enough to begin. Add a Hebrew name, birth year, life status, photograph, or source only when you know it. Mark the person private if they should stay off shared family surfaces.

4. Upload the first item

Open Memories and choose Add to Pinkas. Upload one photograph, recording, or document. Add a plain title, who or what it shows, and where it came from. Keep the original wording even if you also add a cleaner description.

5. Add the first date

Open Calendar and add a birthday, anniversary, yahrzeit, or other family date. Keep the Hebrew or civil source date exactly as the family knows it; Pinkas can display the corresponding calendar date without replacing the source.

A useful next five minutes

  • Ask the relative you invited to confirm one name, date, or caption.
  • Check that private people and items have the visibility you intended.
  • Add a source note: who knew this, which document shows it, or where the item came from.
