Landsmanshaft: meaning and family-history use
A landsmanshaft was a mutual-aid society often formed by immigrants from the same place. Its records may connect family history with an immigrant community.

How to record it in a family archive
Keep the society's full name, location, dates, archive reference, and the exact item consulted. Do not infer a birthplace solely from a person's association with a society.
A practical example
A membership record is evidence of an association. Record the membership fact separately from a proposed conclusion about the person's town of origin.
Keep the original context
A glossary definition helps orient a reader; it cannot resolve an individual document, identity, or observance question. Save the original source and note who supplied any interpretation. Ask a qualified reader or the relevant community authority when the context is unclear.
