Yiddish kinship terms: meaning and family-history use
Family words such as bubbe can carry both a relationship and a person's familiar name within a household. Preserve the family's actual usage instead of treating a nickname as a complete identification.

How to record it in a family archive
Record the word as spoken, who used it, and the person it referred to. An audio clip can preserve pronunciation that an English spelling cannot fully represent.
A practical example
If a caption says only 'Bubbe', ask whose grandmother is meant. Add the person's full identification separately while retaining the affectionate original caption.
Keep the original context
A glossary definition helps orient a reader; it cannot resolve an individual document, identity, or observance question. Save the original source and note who supplied any interpretation. Ask a qualified reader or the relevant community authority when the context is unclear.
