What to do when relatives remember differently
Conflicting memories belong in the archive with their sources. A useful record can preserve several accounts without prematurely choosing a definitive story.

A practical first step
Attribute each account to the person and interview date. Separate what the evidence establishes from what remains uncertain, and invite corrections without erasing earlier context.
An example to follow
If two cousins identify a person differently, store both identifications and their reasons. A later labeled photograph may resolve the question.
Keep the record useful for the next relative
Save the original item or recording, the source of each claim, and the date you added the note. Label estimates and disputed details. Decide who should have access before inviting other people to help.
